Wiring & Harnessing Engineer

  • On-site
    • Palo Alto, California, United States
  • $169,800 - $210,000
  • Hardware Engineering

No company, no research institute has ever managed to build a robot hand that comes anywhere close to human level dexterity. We invite you to be part of making this breakthrough happen.

Job description

Since its founding in 2015, 1X has been at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids.

We strive for excellence in all we do, solving some of the hardest problems in robotics with the world’s most talented individuals. Every part of our robots is designed and produced in-house—from motor coils to AI—reflecting our vertically integrated approach. At 1X, you’ll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit.

We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.

Why this job is exciting

  • Own the full lifecycle of wiring systems that power and connect every subsystem in our humanoid robot

  • Transform complex electrical and mechanical requirements into manufacturable, reliable harnesses

  • See your designs move from prototype to scaled production inside thousands of humanoids

Responsibilities

  • Design, route, and specify wiring harnesses, connectors, and cable assemblies for humanoid robots

  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to ensure harnesses meet performance and reliability standards

  • Create and maintain wiring documentation including schematics, pinouts, BOMs, harness drawings, and assembly instructions

  • Select connectors, wire types, shielding, and strain relief methods to optimize EMI/EMC compliance, weight, and durability

  • Support harness prototyping, assembly, and testing through hands-on build and troubleshooting

  • Partner with supply chain and manufacturing to scale harness production, improving yield, cost, and serviceability

  • Diagnose and resolve wiring-related issues during integration, bring-up, and field operation

  • Drive continuous improvement of harness design for manufacturability, serviceability, and long-term reliability

Job requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or equivalent experience

  • 5+ years of experience designing and building wiring harnesses in robotics, automotive, aerospace, or similar fields

  • Proficiency with harness design tools such as SolidWorks Electrical, Zuken E3, or AutoCAD Electrical

  • Strong knowledge of connector selection, crimping, routing, EMI/EMC best practices, and wire derating

  • Hands-on skills in soldering, crimping, continuity testing, and troubleshooting with lab tools

  • Experience collaborating across disciplines and releasing accurate, production-ready documentation

  • Passion for building robust wiring systems that scale to production

Location Policy

We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.
