System Integration Engineer, Hands

    Job description

1X builds safe humanoid robots that work alongside people at home and in factories. We ship fast, test hard, iterate until it works.

    About the Role

As a System Integration Engineer at 1X Technologies you will focus on integrating complex robotic systems, sensors, compute, and software into reliable end-to-end solutions. You will own interface definition, bring-up, and troubleshooting across hardware, firmware, networking, and cloud/edge services. Partnering with R&D, manufacturing, and field teams, you will turn prototypes into scalable products through rigorous validation, automation, and clear documentation. This role suits a hands-on engineer who thrives in fast-paced development and enjoys solving cross-disciplinary integration challenges.

    Responsibilities

    • Define and maintain system architecture, interfaces, and integration plans across hardware and software components.

    • Integrate sensors, actuators, embedded controllers, and compute modules into robotic platforms.

    • Develop and execute bring-up procedures, test plans, and validation protocols for new builds.

    • Diagnose complex issues spanning electronics, firmware, OS, networking, and application layers.

    • Build integration tooling, scripts, and automated tests to improve reliability and speed.

    • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, firmware, and software teams to resolve interface gaps.

    • Manage configuration, versioning, and traceability of system components and releases.

    • Support manufacturing and field deployments with build instructions and troubleshooting guides.

    • Analyze performance logs and telemetry; propose improvements for stability and safety.

    • Document designs, integration results, and best practices; contribute to continuous improvement.

    Job requirements

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.

    • 5+ years in systems integration for robotics, autonomous systems, aerospace, or complex electromechanical products.

    • Strong debugging skills using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and software tools.

    • Experience with Linux, shell scripting, and at least one language (Python/C++).

    • Familiarity with embedded systems, buses and protocols (CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, Ethernet).

    • Understanding of networking fundamentals, time sync, and distributed systems concepts.

    • Ability to write clear interface specs, test procedures, and technical documentation.

    • Experience with CI/CD or automated testing frameworks for hardware/software integration.

    • Comfort working with version control (Git) and issue tracking in an agile environment.

    • Excellent collaboration skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-moving R&D setting.
