As we scale from research and development to full-scale manufacturing, we are looking for a Supplier Quality Engineer (Electrical).

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and implement a scalable Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) system, including processes for supplier qualification, performance monitoring, and risk management.

  • Lead supplier selection, qualification, and audits, while developing and implementing quality plans for a wide range of electrical components, assemblies, and functional tests, including PCBs, wire harnesses, connectors, and electromechanical systems

  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve quality issues using tools like 8D, 5 Whys, and Ishikawa, and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

  • Provide feedback on vendor Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and inspection plans, and review first article inspection (FAI) reports to ensure parts meet specifications and regulatory standards (e.g. IPC, UL, CE, RoHS)

  • Review and approve supplier process and tooling changes, establish process capability at the supplier, and drive process optimization to ensure consistent, reliable, and efficient production.

  • Work with design, manufacturing, and supply chain teams to align quality expectations and integrate supplier quality into product development. Proactively identify areas of improvement both internally and with suppliers to continuously enhance the product & balance cost.

  • Track supplier performance metrics and lead improvement initiatives to achieve and surpass quality goals. 

Assist suppliers in achieving and maintaining compliance with industry standards and certifications, ensuring alignment with regulatory and company requirements. Concrete understanding of J-STD-001, IPC-A-610 & 620,  IPC 6102.

Job requirements

Must-Haves:

  • 5+ Years of experience in Supplier Quality / Quality Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering

  • Education: Process, Mechatronics, Industrial, Electrical Engineering or similar

  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA) processes, quality management systems, and tools such as PPAP, FAI, FMEA, and AVL management.

  • Strong understanding of electrical component manufacturing and assembly processes, including PCB fabrication, SMT assembly, wire harness production, connector assembly, and electromechanical integration. Skilled in evaluating these processes for quality, efficiency, and compliance with industry standards (e.g., IPC, UL).

  • Supplier Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to work effectively with domestic and international suppliers, including leading joint investigations, conducting audits, and implementing supplier improvement plans.

  • Communication & Collaboration: Proven ability to coordinate and lead cross-functional teams across design, manufacturing, and supply chain functions, with a focus on excellent documentation and communication skills.

  • Problem Solving: Hands-on experience with quality frameworks and tools for resolving complex technical issues, such as Six Sigma, 8D, Ishikawa diagrams, SPC, and 5 Whys.

  • Data-Driven Problem Solving: Proven experience in analyzing engineering data, creating models, and leveraging statistical tools to identify root causes and effectively communicate findings to drive decision-making and corrective actions.

  • Attributes: Self-starter with the ability to work independently and take ownership of projects. 

  • Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel up to 40% to collaborate with suppliers and support quality initiatives.

Nice-To-Haves:

  • Experience developing and implementing quality initiatives, training and/or strategy. 

  • Experience mentoring junior engineers or cross-functional team members, fostering a culture of quality, and sharing best practices in supplier quality processes and problem-solving methodologies

  • Experience with a technically complex electro-mechanical scaling product.

  • Experience working at a startup, Skunk Works or LEAN team.

  • Strong knowledge and good working level experience of the Odoo ERP system (v18 or v17)

  • Altium, Solidworks, Minitab, SQL/Python.

Typical interview process 

  • Introductions - interviews to learn more about you and talk about 1X and the role

    • Interview with a member of the Talent Acquisition team

    • Hiring manager / senior team member / technical interview

  • Team interviews - technical interviews and deep-dives with team members. May include a take home challenge, presentation or problem-solving exercise

    • Technical deep-dive conversation with a team member 

    • Onsite interviews with team members 

  • Final stages - you move to the final round

    • Expectation management with the hiring manager 

    • We will conduct reference checks

    • Job offer conversation 

Depending on the role and your background, additional interviews may be added. You are also welcome to request additional conversations with anyone you would like to meet, but didn’t get to meet during the interview process.
