Job description

At 1X, the NEXT team is developing foundational technologies to power the next generation of humanoid robots. We're tackling some of the most complex and exciting challenges in robotics—building systems that aim to match the elegance of human gait, the dexterity of the human hand, and the awareness of the human sensory system.

We’re seeking curious, hands-on engineers and researchers who thrive at the intersection of physics, engineering, and invention. If you’re passionate about developing technologies that push boundaries and enable real-world humanoid capabilities, we’d love to hear from you.

Job requirements

  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals (e.g., mathematics, materials science, mechanical/electrical principles).

  • Educational background in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field.

  • Full-stack R&D capabilities, including:

    • Interpreting academic research and patents.

    • Modeling systems using simulation or software tools.

    • Prototyping with machining, rapid fabrication, and embedded systems.

    • Designing and running experiments with structured analysis of results.

  • Ability to evaluate the practicality and feasibility of novel ideas, especially when distinguishing between promising innovation and theoretical concepts.

Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Haves):

  • Demonstrated passion for building, tinkering, or technical exploration—professionally or personally.

  • Interest in human biomechanics or the nervous system and how they relate to robotic design.

  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to present bold concepts and incorporate feedback effectively.

  • Appreciation for historic figures in science, engineering, or invention
