Job description

About 1X

We’re an AI and robotics company based in Palo Alto, California, on a mission to build a truly abundant society through general‑purpose robots capable of performing any kind of work autonomously.
We believe that to truly understand the world and grow in intelligence, humanoid robots must live and learn alongside us. That’s why we’re focused on developing friendly home robots designed to integrate seamlessly into everyday life.
We’re looking for curious, driven, and passionate people who want to help shape the future of robotics and AI. If this mission excites you, we’d be thrilled to hear from you and explore how you might contribute to our journey.

Role Overview

As a Software Engineer on the Platforms team, you will build and maintain the core systems, tools, and infrastructure that enable development, deployment, and scaling of 1X’s humanoid robot software. You will work across the full stack—from hardware/firmware interfaces to internal tools—to streamline workflows, create robust automation, and ensure platforms are reliable and efficient for development and production use.

Responsibilities

  • Improve and maintain tools and systems that support development and deployment

  • Work across the tech stack to streamline workflows, from local development through testing and release

  • Help shape and evolve internal APIs, data formats, and system architecture

  • Build reliable infrastructure and automation to support cross‑functional teams

  • Tackle a wide variety of technical challenges across hardware, firmware, platforms, and production environments

Job requirements

  • Experience building and maintaining internal systems, tools, or platforms that interface with hardware/firmware or deployment pipelines

  • Ability to work across layers of the stack (from low‑level system or hardware interactions up through tooling, APIs, and automation)

  • Strong programming skills and familiarity with developing reliable, maintainable, and scalable software

  • Good understanding of workflows for testing, release, deployment, and CI/CD pipelines

  • Ability to collaborate with multiple teams (hardware, firmware, production, operations) to ensure platform stability and usability

  • Strong problem‑solving ability and comfort working on varied technical domains
