Senior Staff Accountant

    Job description

Since its founding in 2015, 1X has been at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids.

We strive for excellence in all we do, solving some of the hardest problems in robotics with the world’s most talented individuals. Every part of our robots is designed and produced in-house—from motor coils to AI—reflecting our vertically integrated approach. At 1X, you’ll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit.

We are seeking a Senior Accountant with strong technical and operational accounting experience to play a key role in building and scaling our finance function. This individual will oversee critical components of the month-end close, drive improvements across core accounting processes, maintain accuracy of the general ledger, and support cross-functional initiatives across a fast-growing robotics organization.

The ideal candidate has a solid understanding of GAAP, strong reconciliation and close experience, the ability to independently resolve complex issues, and the confidence to own accounting processes end-to-end. This is a high-impact role within a small but rapidly scaling team—perfect for someone who thrives in a hands-on, fast-paced environment.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Own significant areas of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close cycles, including complex journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and analytics

    • Lead full-cycle accounting operations across AP/AR, vendor management, invoicing, payment processing, and collections support as needed

    • Maintain and improve the general ledger, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP

    • Drive operational excellence through documenting, strengthening, and implementing internal controls

    • Prepare supporting schedules and manage deliverables for external financial audits

    • Support federal, state, and local compliance requirements including tax filings, business licenses, and regulatory reporting

    • Conduct technical accounting research and prepare documentation on new or complex transactions

    • Partner closely with HR, Supply Chain, Engineering, and external vendors to ensure accurate, timely financial operations

    • Identify inefficiencies and propose process or systems improvements as we scale our financial infrastructure

    • Serve as a subject matter expert for AP processes, ERP workflows, and general accounting procedures

    • Help mentor junior team members as the finance function grows

    Job requirements

    Qualifications:

    • 5–7+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in a dynamic or high-growth environment

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

    • CPA preferred

    • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and internal control principles

    • Advanced reconciliation, month-end close, and journal entry experience

    • Proven AP and broader accounting operational experience (not AP-only)

    • Ability to research and interpret technical accounting issues

    • High proficiency in Excel/Google Sheets and modern accounting systems/ERPs (NetSuite, RAMP, Stampli, etc.)

    • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and collaborate cross-functionally

    • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

    • Detail-oriented with a proactive, problem-solving mindset

    • Startup or hardware experience a plus

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Big 4 public accounting experience and/or manufacturing industry exposure

    • Experience supporting or leading systems implementations

    • Familiarity with SOX or internal control frameworks
