Job description

Targeted start date: Immediately. Relocation provided.

We are at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Metrology Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be instrumental in performing high-precision measurements that support the refinement of designs and production processes, both in-house and at supplier sites, driving superior product quality throughout the organisation.

You will collaborate closely with R&D, Production Engineering, Assembly/Build teams, and Supply Chain, taking ownership of measurement activities primarily using a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) to validate parts and assemblies. Your work will involve providing structured feedback to relevant teams, often including recommendations for design modifications, fixturing strategies, or adjustments to manufacturing processes, whether in-house or with suppliers.

The ideal candidate will have a background in Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related field, along with hands-on expertise in using CMMs and precision measurement techniques. They should possess a proactive, “get-things-done” attitude, demonstrating a strong ability to balance strategic foresight with the execution of day-to-day tasks. Exceptional collaboration skills are essential to work effectively across teams and contribute to continuous quality improvement.

What You’ll Get By Joining Our Team:

  • You can shape the future by ensuring the development of high quality humanoid robots.

  • You will have the autonomy to improve both the practical and theoretical of your technical skills.

  • You’ll join an agile and diverse, global team.

  • You'll be able to shape how we are doing things from day 1.

Why this job is exciting

Every day is different! You will get to

  • Perform technically complex root cause analyses across the value chain, focusing on precision measurements for design validation, supplier part inspection, and assembly evaluations.

  • Use high-precision metrology tools like CMMs to validate parts and assemblies, providing actionable feedback to design, production, and supplier teams to enhance reliability and quality.

  • Drive improvements in design, processes, and tooling within manufacturing and production, ensuring efficiency, safety, and product excellence.

  • Develop and maintain structured metrology protocols and quality processes, supporting continuous improvement initiatives such as first article inspections and part validation strategies.

  • Collaborate with suppliers globally, leveraging metrology insights to resolve and prevent quality issues.

  • Work with multidisciplinary teams across R&D, Production, Electronics, Controls, and AI, integrating precision measurement feedback into iterative design and production processes.

  • Thrive in a culture of inclusivity, innovation, and teamwork, where your expertise will directly influence the quality of cutting-edge robotics.

Within one month, you will…

  • Begin root cause investigations, applying metrology-driven insights to various technical challenges.

  • Familiarise yourself with internal quality control systems, including ticket tracking, part rejection workflows, and first article inspection protocols.

  • Contribute to measurement strategies, identifying areas for improvement in design and manufacturing processes.

Within three months, you will…

  • Lead initiatives to refine production and manufacturing processes, implementing advanced measurement techniques to improve quality, reliability, and repeatability.

  • Build strong relationships with key suppliers and sub-manufacturers, collaborating on metrology-based solutions to resolve quality issues.

  • Own root cause investigations, delivering precise measurement data and actionable feedback to relevant teams.

  • Propose design and process adjustments based on metrology insights, ensuring compliance with quality standards.

Within one year, you will…

  • Drive continuous improvement by establishing and ensuring adherence to robust quality standards and advanced measurement capabilities.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in implementing precision validation initiatives across parts, assemblies, and processes.
  • Become a subject matter expert in metrology, influencing strategic decisions for hardware systems, sub-systems, and scalability of production and the supply chain.
  • Standardise and optimise metrology practices to enhance efficiency and scalability organisation-wide.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive, metrology-based root cause analyses to resolve complex quality issues across design, part sourcing, and assembly.
  • Utilise advanced measurement tools (e.g., CMMs) to validate parts and assemblies, ensuring alignment with engineering specifications.
  • Collaborate with the NPI Quality team to enhance quality standards, conduct supplier audits, and implement robust measurement systems.
  • Partner with internal Production, Supplier Quality Assurance, and Supply Chain teams to refine processes, focusing on efficiency, safety, and quality.
  • Drive iterative design improvements by using precision measurement data to optimise hardware systems and assemblies.
  • Strengthen supplier relationships through metrology-based assessments and audits, ensuring compliance with quality requirements.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality documentation, including metrology protocols, inspection reports, and quality manuals, to support compliance and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in improving in-house and supplier processes by leveraging metrology expertise to drive safety, efficiency, and adherence to quality standards.

Job requirements

Must-Haves:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related engineering discipline with a focus on Metrology or Precision Measurement.

  • Proven hands-on experience with 3+2 axis Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), performing measurements with precision down to single-digit microns.

  • Strong problem-solving skills, including the ability to define measurement strategies, establish robust and reliable measurement setups, and deliver structured, clear data to inform decision-making.

  • Proficiency in using quality frameworks to address technically complex issues, such as Six Sigma, 8D Problem Solving, Ishikawa (Fishbone Diagram), Statistical Process Control (SPC), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and the 5 Whys methodology.

  • A solid understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles.

  • Technical expertise in areas such as Gauge R&R (Repeatability and Reproducibility), precision tools like micrometers and gauges, and conducting assembly stack-up and tolerance analysis.

Nice-To-Haves:

  • Experience building and leading teams responsible for high-precision measurements within a company.

  • Proven ability to collaborate with suppliers, both domestic and international, with bonus points for experience in joint investigations, audits, or First Article Inspections (FAIs).

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical design, including product design and production tooling design.

  • Familiarity with both low-volume and high-volume manufacturing technologies, enabling thoughtful recommendations for design changes that align with manufacturing constraints.

  • Experience working in startups or lean teams, demonstrating adaptability and resourcefulness in dynamic environments.
