Job description
Since its founding in 2015, 1X has been at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids. We strive for excellence in all we do, solving some of the hardest problems in robotics with the world’s most talented individuals. Every part of our robots is designed and produced in-house—from motor coils to AI—reflecting our vertically integrated approach. At 1X, you’ll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit.
We’re looking for a prototyping intern for with strong 3D printing experience to support hardware development for June - end of August 2025. You’ll be part of the Prototyping team, responsible for printing, assembling, and testing mechanical parts used in our humanoid robots. This is a hands-on, in-person role based in Palo Alto. For the right candidate, this internship may lead to a full-time offer.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Run 3D printers (FDM, SLA, maybe SLS): queue jobs, dial in settings, troubleshoot, post-process
Calibrate and maintain print equipment
Optimize CAD models for printability
Prototype assembly and mechanical testing
Document print settings, results, and workflows
Maintain print lab organization and inventory
Job requirements
Hands-on experience operating 3D printers (FDM, SLA, etc.)
Familiarity with slicing software (e.g., PrusaSlicer, Cura, PreForm)
Basic CAD skills (Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Onshape, etc.)
Comfortable doing physical work—setup, assembly, post-processing
Able to work on-site in Palo Alto
Currently studying engineering or a related field.
NICE TO HAVE
Experience with multiple printing methods (FDM + SLA, etc.)
Familiar with post-processing (washing, curing, sanding, tapping, etc.)
Worked on robotics, mechatronics, or general hardware projects
If you know your way around 3D printers and can figure things out quickly, that matters more to us than checking every box.
