Job description
Since its founding in 2015, 1X has been at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids.
We strive for excellence in all we do, solving some of the hardest problems in robotics with the world’s most talented individuals. Every part of our robots is designed and produced in-house—from motor coils to AI—reflecting our vertically integrated approach. At 1X, you’ll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit.
We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.
Why this job is exciting
Own the mechanical systems that take NEO from prototype to mass production
Shape scalable design solutions that meet the demands of high-volume manufacturing
In time, your work will be in the hands of thousands of humanoids operating around the world
Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of structural components, mechanisms, and assemblies that meet performance, reliability, and safety requirements
Own the mechanical product lifecycle from concept and prototyping to validation and volume production
Partner with manufacturing and supply chain to apply DFM and DFA principles for scalable, cost-effective builds
Conduct and oversee mechanical analyses including FEA, thermal, and kinematic studies to validate robust design
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate mechanical systems into full robot architecture
Create and maintain clear design documentation—3D CAD models, drawings, and specs—for internal and external stakeholders
Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues arising during prototyping, testing, and production
Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence
Act as a technical authority influencing design decisions and strategic direction in mechanical engineering
Job requirements
Requirements
7+ years in mechanical engineering with a track record of delivering complex hardware into high-volume production
Expertise in CAD modeling and analysis tools (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, ANSYS)
Deep understanding of DFM/DFA principles and manufacturing methods like molding, casting, machining, and forging
Proven experience developing tight-tolerance, high-reliability mechanical systems
Background in advanced mechanical analysis including FEA
Hands-on experience with global suppliers, tooling design, and production ramp-up
Strong problem-solving ability and a track record of overcoming design challenges
Clear communicator and effective collaborator with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering or related field (PhD a plus)
Nice-to-haves
Background in robotics, automotive, consumer electronics, or similarly complex hardware systems
Location Policy
