Job description

Since its founding in 2015, 1X has been at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids.

We strive for excellence in all we do, solving some of the hardest problems in robotics with the world’s most talented individuals. Every part of our robots is designed and produced in-house—from motor coils to AI—reflecting our vertically integrated approach. At 1X, you’ll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit.

We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.

Why this job is exciting

  • Own the design and validation of next-generation battery charging systems for humanoid robots

  • Work across the stack—from power topology to real-time firmware integration

  • In time, your designs will power thousands of humanoids deployed worldwide

Responsibilities

  • Design, simulate, and validate AC-DC and DC-DC power conversion topologies (flyback, LLC, buck, boost, PFC)

  • Develop and optimize lithium-based battery charging circuits across a range of voltages and currents

  • Select power components (MOSFETs, IGBTs, GaN/SiC devices, magnetics, capacitors, gate drivers) balancing efficiency, thermal performance, and cost

  • Lead schematic design, PCB layout reviews, and component derating for charger hardware

  • Collaborate with firmware teams on control loops, current limiting, fault detection, and thermal management

  • Conduct lab validation, stress testing, and design-for-manufacturability reviews

  • Ensure compliance with EMI/EMC, safety, and regulatory standards (UL, IEC, ISO)

  • Support integration of charger systems with BMS and overall product architecture

Job requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field

  • 3+ years of experience in power electronics design, with focus on chargers, power supplies, or inverters

  • Proficiency with simulation tools such as LTspice, PLECS, or MATLAB/Simulink

  • Hands-on experience with SMPS and digital/analog converter control

  • Familiarity with thermal design, PCB layout best practices, and protection circuits

  • Skilled with lab equipment including oscilloscopes, power analyzers, electronic loads, and thermal chambers

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience designing multi-kW or >60V charging systems

  • Background in EV charging, robotics, drones, or industrial energy systems

  • Knowledge of functional safety, isolation, and fail-safe system design

  • Exposure to firmware-controlled digital power systems (DSPs, microcontrollers, FPGAs)

  • Experience with EMC design and compliance testing

Location Policy

We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.
