Operations Manager Robot Services - PM
Job description
PM Operations Manager, Service
Department: Maintenance & Service Operations
Location: San Carlos, CA (On-site)
Shift: PM Shift
About 1X
We’re building humanoid robots that work in home - doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it’s not.
To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, and manufacturing at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you’re inspired by this, you’ll thrive here. We’ve been at this since 2014 and we’re at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.
NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We’re not demoing it - we’re shipping it. We’re excited to meet you if this excites you.
If you’ve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We’re scaling, we’re hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.
About the Team
The Maintenance & Repair Operations team is responsible for keeping robotic systems operating reliably as we scale from prototype development into higher-volume deployment. The team sits at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, quality, and field operations - closing critical feedback loops between hardware performance and product improvement.
This group plays a direct role in improving robot reliability, operational readiness, and scalability across the entire lifecycle of our systems.
Your Charter
As the PM Operations Manager, Service, you will lead the PM shift of our internal Maintenance & Repair Operations organization. You’ll own the execution and scaling of repair operations for complex electromechanical robotic systems — from intake and diagnostics through repair, validation, and return-to-service.
This role is critical to ensuring system reliability, operational throughput, and rapid feedback into engineering as 1X scales humanoid robot production and deployment. You’ll operate as both a hands-on technical leader and an operational builder, developing the processes, standards, and team needed to support a rapidly growing robotics operation.
Key Outcomes
Build and lead a high-performing PM shift repair and maintenance operation supporting robotic system reliability at scale
Establish scalable workflows for diagnostics, repair, validation, failure tracking, and return-to-service processes
Drive measurable improvements in repair turnaround time, repeat failure reduction, and operational throughput
Partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Quality teams to improve product reliability and serviceability
Develop and mentor a growing team of repair technicians and diagnostic/service engineers across both hourly and salaried functions
Job requirements
Key Competencies
Strong hands-on troubleshooting capability across complex electromechanical systems
Ability to lead technical teams in fast-paced, high-growth operational environments
Deep operational instincts with experience building scalable repair or maintenance workflows
Excellent root cause analysis and structured problem-solving skills
Comfortable operating both strategically and tactically — from process development to hands-on repair work on the floor
Minimum Requirements
4–6+ years of experience in electromechanical repair, maintenance, sustaining engineering, or related technical operations environments
Proven experience leading technical teams in manufacturing, robotics, automotive, aerospace, or other high-reliability industries
Strong experience troubleshooting and repairing complex hardware systems
Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, rapidly evolving startup environments
Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline preferred, but not required
Preferred Skills
Experience supporting robotics, autonomous systems, EV platforms, or aviation systems
Background in depot operations or medium-to-high volume repair environments
Familiarity with reliability engineering concepts, failure analysis, and structured root cause methodologies
Experience working within traceability-driven or safety-critical operational environments
Exposure to scaling repair or refurbishment operations from prototype to production volume
What Does a Successful 1X Team Member Look Like
