    Mechanical Engineer (All Levels), Diagnostics Engineering
    Palo Alto, CA (on-site)

    We build humanoid robots that work alongside people to solve labor shortages and create abundance.

    The Role
    As a Mechanical Engineer on the Diagnostics Engineering team, you’ll play a key role in improving the reliability and performance of our robots. You’ll prototype mechanical improvements, develop diagnostic tools to accelerate fault detection, and directly diagnose issues in our fleet. Your work will bridge hardware, software, and service, helping to ensure our robots continue to perform at their best in the field.

    You Will

    • Design, prototype, and validate mechanical improvements to address field failures and deploy updates fleet-wide

    • Analyze fleet data to identify systemic mechanical issues and opportunities for design improvements

    • Build diagnostic tools such as test fixtures, gauges, and inspection equipment to enhance fault isolation speed and accuracy

    • Assess incoming robots, execute diagnostic protocols, and identify mechanical failures with documented root causes

    • Create test procedures and diagnostic protocols that improve the speed and reliability of robot assessments

    • Communicate findings and design recommendations to hardware engineering teams for integration into production

    Job requirements

    Must Have

    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

    • 3+ years of hands-on experience with mechanical systems, robotics, or mechatronic products

    • Proficiency in CAD for mechanical design

    • Demonstrated ability to diagnose complex mechanical failures using systematic analysis

    • Experience designing and prototyping mechanical improvements and validating changes

    • Experience building test fixtures, diagnostic tools, or custom mechanical hardware

    • Familiarity with diagnostic tools, test equipment, and command-line interfaces

    • Strong technical writing and documentation skills

    • Ability to collaborate across engineering teams and effectively communicate design insights

    • Comfortable with hands-on tasks such as assembly, disassembly, and mechanical rework

    • Full-time availability for on-site work in Palo Alto
