We are at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. 

Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids. 


As we transition from R&D to full-scale manufacturing, we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Head of Service Engineering to be the primary interface between the hardware engineering team and the field service team. As an individual contributor, this person will be the most senior point of reference and knowledge for the service community and will participate in and influence the design and manufacturing process to deliver better service outcomes.  This role involves overseeing complex robot repairs, developing maintenance protocols, and ensuring the ongoing reliability and performance of our robots. We are looking for individuals with hands-on experience, and a proactive "get-things-done" attitude, who excel in both long-term strategic planning and day-to-day execution of practical tasks.

Within one month, you will…

  • Learn the ropes of how our technology works.

  • Be involved in servicing NEO together with our service techs.


Within three months, you will…

  • Define the procedures and tools necessary to service NEO in the field.

  • Create awareness and knowledge in the company about service engineering.

  • Collaborate with the Field Service and Customer Success teams to prepare NEO for a commercial rollout.


Within one year, you will…

  • Lead a small team of Service Engineers.

  • Help scale up service support for a growing fleet of NEOs.


Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary interface between hardware engineering and field service teams, facilitating communication and collaboration.
  • Participate in and influence the design and manufacturing process to enhance serviceability and reliability of robots.
  • Oversee complex robot repairs and ensure timely and effective resolution of technical issues.
  • Develop and implement maintenance protocols to ensure ongoing robot reliability and performance.
  • Monitor and analyze service data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and quality standards.
  • Provide technical training and support to field service technicians as needed.
  • Work closely with the Field Service and Customer Experience Manager to ensure seamless integration of service operations.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and efficiency.

Job requirements

  • Proven experience in service engineering or a related field, with a focus on complex technical repairs and maintenance
  • Excellent technical expertise in robotics, electronics, and mechanical systems
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate cross-functional collaboration
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Versatility to handle ambiguity and rise to challenges in a rapidly scaling business environment

We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.

We are in the heart of the SiIlicon Valley in a commuter-friendly location with plenty of parking, access to 101 or 280. If you prefer public transportation, Orange Line (VTA) light rail station is across the street. Living in the Bay Area, you will have access to many activities available in its proximity from surfing in Half Moon Bay to skiing at Tahoe, wine tasting in Napa, hiking on the many trails or other sports activities on the many tennis courts, golf courses, etc..

Typical Interview Process

  • Introductions - interviews to learn more about you and talk about 1X and the role
    • Interview with a member of the Talent Acquisition team

    • Hiring manager / senior team member / technical interview

  • Team interviews - technical interviews and deep-dives with team members. May include a take home challenge, presentation or problem-solving exercise
    • Technical deep-dive conversation with a team member

    • Onsite interviews with team members

  • Final Interview Stage - we move you to our final round
    • Expectation management with the hiring manager

    • We will conduct reference checks

    • Job offer conversation
