FEA Simulation Engineer, Thermal

  • On-site
    • Palo Alto, California, United States
  • Hardware Engineering

Job description

Target start date: Immediately.

Since its founding in 2015, 1X has been at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids.

We strive for excellence in all we do, solving some of the hardest problems in robotics with the world’s most talented individuals. Every part of our robots is designed and produced in-house—from motor coils to AI—reflecting our vertically integrated approach. At 1X, you’ll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit.

We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.

As we scale from research and development to full-scale manufacturing, we are looking for a Thermal FEA Simulation Engineer to ensure our actuators and embedded systems meet performance and safety requirements under thermal constraints. In this role, you will model, simulate, and validate thermal behavior across key subsystems of NEO, our humanoid robot.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Build high-fidelity 3D thermal models of actuators, including electric motors, power electronics, and mechanical housings

  • Simulate and analyze thermal behavior to identify areas for thermal risk mitigation and performance optimization

  • Develop and implement design improvements to manage heat across compact and integrated assemblies

  • Run thermal validation tests at subsystem and full product level, correlating simulation results with experimental data

  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and systems teams to implement and verify thermal solutions in hardware

Job requirements

  • Proven proficiency with thermal FEA tools

  • Strong hands-on experience with 3D CAD environments

  • Familiarity with electric motor design, power electronics, and compact embedded systems

  • Ability to drive end-to-end simulation, testing, and iteration cycles independently

  • Strong communication and documentation skills in a fast-paced engineering environment

Location Policy

We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.

We're excited to get to know you and the prospects of having you on board!
