Job description

About 1X
We’re an AI and robotics company based in Palo Alto, California, on a mission to build a truly abundant society through general-purpose robots capable of performing any kind of work autonomously.

We believe that to truly understand the world and grow in intelligence, humanoid robots must live and learn alongside us. That’s why we’re focused on developing friendly home robots designed to integrate seamlessly into everyday life.

We’re looking for curious, driven, and passionate people who want to help shape the future of robotics and AI. If this mission excites you, we’d be thrilled to hear from you and explore how you might contribute to our journey.

Role Overview
We're seeking an EMI/EMC Engineer to ensure our robots operate cleanly and comply with key regulatory standards. You’ll be part of a highly collaborative, cross-disciplinary team, working to design, test, and optimize every aspect of our electronic systems. This role is pivotal to keeping our systems interference-free, safe, and ready for deployment. Your work will directly impact the performance and reliability of our robots in real-world environments.

Responsibilities

  • Build EMI/EMC plans to keep our robots’ electronics clean and compliant (CISPR, IEC 61000, FCC Part 15)

  • Work with hardware, software, and AI folks to bake EMI/EMC into every design from day one

  • Run tests—plan them, set them up, and execute in our lab or with external partners

  • Use tools like ANSYS HFSS to model and squash interference before it’s a problem

  • Debug EMI issues, find the root cause, and fix them fast

  • Build in-house test rigs to speed up development

  • Handle compliance testing with third-party labs for subsystems and full robots

  • Write clear reports and docs for the team and regulators

  • Push our EMI/EMC game forward with better tools and methods

  • Guide younger engineers to think sharp and move quick

Job requirements

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or Physics (PhD’s cool but not a must)

  • 4+ years tackling EMI/EMC in robotics, cars, or gadgets

  • Know CISPR, IEC 61000, FCC Part 15 like the back of your hand

  • Handy with spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and simulation tools (ANSYS HFSS, CST)

  • Solid at shielding, filtering, and grounding to kill EMI noise

  • Solve problems from first principles, no hand-holding needed

  • Explain tricky stuff clearly to anyone on the team

  • Thrive in a fast, chaotic environment and love owning big challenges

Benefits & Compensation

  • Salary Range: $145,000 - $180,000

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance

  • 401(k) with company match

  • Paid time off and holidays
