Job description
Since its founding in 2015, 1X has been at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids.
We strive for excellence in all we do, solving some of the hardest problems in robotics with the world’s most talented individuals. Every part of our robots is designed and produced in-house—from motor coils to AI—reflecting our vertically integrated approach. At 1X, you’ll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit.
1X is building safe, helpful humanoid robots to create the most abundant society in human history. To deliver on that vision, we’re designing beautiful, purposeful androids—inside and out. We're looking for a Design Engineer to help turn early design concepts into manufacturable realities. You’ll be a core bridge between our industrial designers and hardware engineers, translating form into function with precision. You’ll own CAD workflows that respect industrial design vision while getting the details right for real-world manufacturing in partnership with hardware design engineers. Your impact will extend well beyond CAD, you’ll shape how our robots look, feel, and come to life in the world around us.
Responsibilities
Own CAD development in industrial design, from early prototyping stages all the way to production-ready assemblies
Create clean, parametric 3D models that support fast iteration and long-term scalability
Work closely with hardware engineering to balance design intent and technical constraints
Solve real-world issues like draft angles, fasteners, wall thicknesses, and tolerances
Prepare STEP files, BOMs, and documentation that feed directly into our build pipeline
Help prototype and test parts with our prototyping, fabrication and assembly teams
Job requirements
Mechanical Engineer with 4+ years of experience in making consumer products and owning CAD development
Deep knowledge in SolidWorks, Creo, Fusion 360 or OnShape especially for complex surfacing and assemblies
Track record in fast prototyping and testing ideas and concepts
Familiarity with manufacturing processes of hard and soft goods
Sharp eye for form and proportion—and the precision to make it manufacturable
Clear communicator and effective collaborator across design, hardware, and operations
All else is trumped by a great track record of executing along similar or overlapping paths
Nice to have:
Experience working alongside industrial designers or within a design team
Understanding of CMF and how it intersects with DFM
Location Policy
We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.
