    • Hayward , California, United States
  • $40 per year
  • Manufacturing and Production

Job description

Target start date: Immediately. Relocation provided.

Since its founding in 2015, 1X has been at the forefront of developing advanced humanoid robots designed for household use. Our mission is to create an abundant supply of labor via safe, intelligent humanoids.

We strive for excellence in all we do, solving some of the hardest problems in robotics with the world’s most talented individuals. Every part of our robots is designed and produced in-house—from motor coils to AI—reflecting our vertically integrated approach. At 1X, you’ll own real projects, be recognized for your achievements, and rewarded based on merit.

We are looking for an experienced Robotics Automation Engineer to join our manufacturing operations at our new Hayward facility. You will play a critical role in developing and maintaining test automation infrastructure for our humanoid robots. This includes enabling software bring-up for new hardware, validating embedded systems, and building tools to streamline production testing. You'll work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure every robot we ship is reliable, safe, and high-performing.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build electromechanical test setups based on subsystem requirements and validation objectives

  • Apply mechanical engineering principles to develop test methodologies that uncover risks and failure modes

  • Execute mechanical and functional tests for humanoid subsystems (e.g., limbs, joints, enclosures) and analyze results

  • Collect, process, and interpret test data using Python, MATLAB, or equivalent tools

  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation of test plans, results, procedures, and findings

  • Identify root causes of failures and work with engineering teams to implement corrective actions

  • Support continuous improvement of validation strategies, fixtures, and data collection systems

  • Assist in creating scalable test processes for manufacturing and field deployments

Job requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field

  • Strong grasp of core mechanical engineering principles such as statics, dynamics, stress analysis, and power transmission

  • Experience in designing and/or testing electromechanical systems

  • Proficiency in CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) and basic understanding of GD&T

  • Familiarity with sensors, actuators, and data acquisition tools

  • Ability to analyze test data using Python, MATLAB, or similar tools

  • Strong documentation and communication skills

Nice to have

  • Experience with robotic or humanoid hardware

  • Background in FEA, FMEA, or validation in high-reliability applications

  • Exposure to manufacturing environments or hardware development in startups

Compensation
At 1X your work and results will be rewarded with a total rewards package consisting of a base salary, stock options and benefits. Base salary range is $90,000 to $150,000. Your actual salary will be based on your knowledge, skills and experience.

Location Policy
We believe the best work is done when collaborating and therefore require in-person presence in our office locations.
